Give God His Tithe

The TRUE purpose of tithing is to teach us to always fear the LORD our God and to put Him FIRST. Even a tenth of the entire tithes collect has to go to God, then from that the Priest get’s his portion (Numbers 18). Yet don’t be like the Pharisees who made sure they tithe but yet neglected the important things which was, to show mercy, justice, the love of God and to have faith (Matthew 23:23 & Luke 11:42).

“Say this to the Levites: ‘When you receive the tithes from the Israelites, give a tenth of the tithes you receive — a tithe of the tithe — to the LORD as a gift. …. You must present one-tenth of the tithe received from the Israelites (us) as a gift to the LORD. From this you must present the LORD’s portion to Aaron the priest.” Numbers 18:26, 28 NLT

“Should people cheat God? Yet you have cheated me!”But you ask, ‘What do you mean? When did we ever cheat you?'”You have cheated me of the tithes and offerings due to me. You are under a curse, for your whole nation has been cheating me. Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the LORD Almighty, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Let me prove it to you! Your crops will be abundant, for I will guard them from insects and disease. Your grapes will not shrivel before they are ripe,” says the LORD Almighty. “Then all nations will call you blessed, for your land will be such a delight,” says the LORD Almighty.” Malachi 3:8-12

Blessings From Tithing Malachi 3:10-12:
1. God’s house being blessed, lacking no means or money to carry on God’s work
2. God will open up the windows of heaven to pour out a blessing so great that there will not be room enough to receive it.
3. Rebuking of the devourer by God Himself
4. The blessings of God seen upon your life by everyone.

  1. There were three different tithes commanded by God, and you are mixing the three. Each had it’s own definition, instructions, and purpose.

Leviticus 27:30-33 defines this tithe as a tenth of crops and animals in herds and flocks.
Numbers 18 gives the ordinances, or instructions, for this tithe, and commands this tithe be taken to the Levites.
Purpose of this tithe: to support the Levitical Priesthood.

Deuteronomy 14:22-27: aka The Festival Tithe – a tenth of crops, plus add to that the firstborn animals, and take to the yearly feasts.
Purpose of this tithe: “that thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always”

Deuteronomy 14:28-29: aka The Three-Year Tithe aka The Poor Tithe – a tenth of crops, kept at home, and invite the Levites, widows, orphans, stranger to eat.
Purpose of this tithe: to feed the poor.

The tithe was never money, and never came from anyone’s income. The tithe was never the first part of anything. Don’t confuse firstfruits with tithing. The firstfruits went to the priests while the first tithe went to the Levites.

Be careful using Malachi 3. It doesn’t apply to Christians. Start with Malachi 3:7 (KJV) “Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ORDINANCES, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?” Then read Colossians 2:14 (KJV) “Blotting out the handwriting of ORDINANCES that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;”

Today, ALL born-again believers are priests. ALL of us are called to be deciples of the Lord. No one of us is greater than another. Our bodies are the Temple where the Spirit dwells. According to the scriptures, priests do not tithe.
